Mr. Hill joined the firm as an associate attorney in 2006 and became a partner in 2012. He practices in all phases of real estate, land use and general business law. Mr. Hill assists property owners, business owners, developers, and construction contractors with planning, documenting, and executing real property and business transactions which range in size from single residential property transactions to acquisition and development of large commercial properties and large, diversified farming operations. He also advises clients and represents clients’ interests in the local, state, and county level land use planning and permitting processes that are often
necessary for real estate development. Mr. Hill is well versed in Measure 37 and Measure 49 development and property rights. He obtained Measure 37 and Measure 49 development rights for our clients who had claims under those laws. He continues to assist clients with property partitions, including those authorized by Measure 49.
Mr. Hill is well recognized for his expertise in the area of mortgage foreclosure law. He has been sought after to speak to other lawyers, judges, and real estate professionals on mortgage foreclosure issues and foreclosure avoidance through negotiated loan modifications and short sales. Mr. Hill also helps contractors and homeowners resolve construction defect issues. Similarly, he is equally comfortable advising either landlords or tenants with issues pertaining to Oregon landlord tenant law. Helping property owners resolve boundary and encroachment disputes is another staple of his legal practice.
Mr. Hill approaches client needs with a practical problem solving approach designed to match client goals with cost effective legal solutions. If litigation is necessary to enforce or protect a client’s rights, Mr. Hill is admitted to practice in all Oregon state and federal courts and is an experienced trial attorney and appellate advocate. He has also successfully represented real estate professionals, such as, land surveyors, Realtors, property managers, and appraisers in administrative proceedings with the various state boards and agencies that regulate those professions. Mr. Hill represents homeowners and construction contractors with issues involving the Oregon Construction Contractors Board.
A Gulf War veteran and former member of the United States Air Force, Mr. Hill was decorated for his service in Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Just Cause while assigned to the 37th Tactical Fighter Wing. He assists other disabled veterans resolve claims with the Veterans Administration due to service connected illness or disability. Mr. Hill actively participates in the Oregon State Bar’s Military Assistance Panel, volunteering his time and expertise to assist Oregon’s deployed military service members and their dependents. Mr. Hill also serves on the executive committee of the Oregon State Bar Military and Veterans Law Section.
Mr. Hill received his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree, with honors, in Economics and Business Management from New Mexico State University. Mr. Hill received his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Florida State University College of Law, where he was also a member of the nationally prominent Journal of Land Use and Environmental Law.
